During his years of change management, Dr. Mason has provided strategic advice to over 300 hospital and health system clients in 38 states, including many of the perennial top 100 hospitals. He has also managed some highly public crisis turnaround situations. His facilitation has included mergers, acquisitions and other collaborative arrangements valued at over $20 billion, where he has been the lead advisor in the formation of over 30 integrated delivery networks (IDNs). In more recent years, strategic planning efforts have focused on performance improvement and achieving efficiencies through integration of both administrative and clinical functions.
Prior to SKM, Dr. Mason worked in a variety of organizations. As President & CEO of eko systems, incorporated, he focused on electronic medical record systems (EMRS) for the high acuity environment. Prior to that, Dr. Mason was Executive Vice President, APACHE Medical Systems (now Aros, Inc.), that focused on automated decision support for high-acuity environments. Dr. Mason became part of APACHE when he sold his consulting firm, National Health Advisors (NHA; founded 1981) in 1997. Early in his career, Dr. Mason was privileged to work at such organizations as Booz, Allen & Hamilton, the American Hospital Association and one of the first IDNs in the country, Samaritan Health Service (now Banner Health.
Scott is a board-certified hospital administrator and frequent national speaker on such topics as e-health, strategy formulation, technology in healthcare and leadership. Scott has been recognized by Who 's Who in Health Care and is a fellow of several credentialing organizations, including the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Association. of Healthcare Consultants (Chairman, 1997). He is a member of the Society for Health Strategy and Development and the Health Information Management Society. Scott holds advanced degrees from George Washington University and Pennsylvania State University. He also has a BS degree from Duke University where he played basketball. An avid golfer, Scott and his wife Melanie live at Avenel in Potomac, MD with their two children.
