 “A veritable tour de force…”

Dr. Maria Todd is the author of The Managed Care Contracting Handbook (1996, McGraw Hill and the HFMA, Chicago ), IPA, PHO, MSO Development Strategies (1997, McGraw Hill and the HFMA, Chicago ), and the Physician Employment Contracting Handbook (1999, McGraw Hill and the MGMA, Chicago ). Two new books will be released by Productivity Press, The Managed Care Contracting Handbook, 2nd Edition, and a yet to be titled book on Consumer Driven Health Plan Participation for Healthcare Providers, scheduled for 2007 release.

With clinical, administrative, health plan and health law paralegal professional work experience, she assists hospitals, physicians and other healthcare professionals on a national basis with managed care contract reviews, (operational and high level strategic development), and specializes on analysis and negotiation of complex, healthcare provider agreements, regulatory compliance, disease management program development, integrated delivery system development and enhancement, managed care contractual revenue audits and recovery projects.

Dr. Todd often serves the legal community on a national basis as an expert witness. She is also a certified mediator specializing in managed care payer-provider disputes. A prolific author, she has contributed articles in Decisions in Imaging Economics, Orthopedics Technology Review and Practice Pointers, a special publication of the American Osteopathic Association. She also serves as an editorial resource to the Managed Care Contracting and Reimbursement Advisor (HCPro), and several other trade and industry journals and special publications, as well as local, regional, and national media.

Todd frequently presents seminars and provides training for various state, national and international trade and professional associations, universities, physician training, residency and fellowship programs and the US Military. She has presented more than 2000 educational programs and lectures since 1991, to more than 60,000 participants throughout the US and abroad. She regularly presents seminars through the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) on managed care contract analysis and negotiation. This unique program features optional attendee participation using laptop computers, whereby participants build easy-to-use, take-home tools, macros and other computerized applications to assist in the analysis and editing of contracts upon return to their offices. It is the only program of its kind offered throughout the nation. Dr Todd incorporates audience interactivity and fun into her training sessions using the Turning Technologies RF Audience Response System.

She is listed in several professional yearbooks, including Who’s Who in American Women, Who’s Who in Medicine and Health, and Who’s Who in the World and is a recipient of the HFMA 1999 Follmer Bronze Award, 2004 Reeves Silver Award and 2005 Muncie Gold Award. She has been recognized for excellence in training and development as a Distinguished Speaker for Healthcare Financial Management Association for the 2002, 2005 and 2006 Annual National Institutes.

Dr. Todd is a member of Medical Group Management Association, an Advanced Member of Healthcare Financial Management Association, American Society of Training and Development, Consumers for Healthcare Choices, and Nevada Executive Healthcare Forum (an ACHE Affiliate). She is an officer in the Nevada HFMA Chapter and serves as its Vice President and Program Chair.

She is currently engaged in projects in the US and abroad developing direct-to-employer programs for CDHP Participation for hospitals, consulting on concierge care program start up for various physician groups, providing specialized reimbursement training and development for various physician-administered injectables, radiopharmaceuticals and other drugs for pharmaceutical industry clients and cutting-edge medical device and new technology manufacturers’ representatives. She is also heading up the development of a 2000+ physician, multi-hospital organization in Southeast Asia for Medical Tourism. In addition, she provides reimbursement and contract analysis and negotiation assistance to more than 200 hospital and physician clients across the US .
