Christopher Irelan, PhD

During the past 20 years, Chris has given over 4,500 energy packed, thought provoking and culture changing presentations to audiences ranging from top level executives to frontline staff throughout the United States .  From the beginning, his guiding principle has been the simple yet profound understanding that, "Companies and organizations do not exist in reality.  They only exist on paper.  In reality they are made up of individual entities called people. When you can empower and grow the individuals at the personal level, the entire organization benefits and moves forward."

This belief crystallized in Chris after a tragic car accident left him hospitalized with his back broken in three places.  Told that his chances of ever walking again were slim at best, his time in the hospital was spent intently observing the processes and people involved in his miraculous recovery.  In particular, he noted the opportunities available for leadership and staff interaction on a personal and professional level as well as the intricate dynamics involved in their communications and teamwork.

While he continued to study the unique dynamics of leadership demanded of healthcare personnel at every level, over the last two decades, Chris has tirelessly explored the key characteristic of successful individuals and organizations across multiple industries who have taken servant leadership and empowerment to the highest levels of excellence.

With a Bachelors Degree in Effective Communication, an Inter-Disciplinary Master’s Degree in Public Speaking, Linguistics and Counseling, and Doctoral studies in Psychotherapy and Human Interaction, Chris has identified the common characteristics in individuals that enable them to not only persevere during difficult times, but to continue to push for excellence and set new standards of accomplishment during those times, when others would simply give up or settle for average at best.

Today, Chris is uniquely positioned to apply his education, research and illuminating expertise to the problems and needs of an injured healthcare system.  Hospital staffs in dozens of hospitals along with hundreds of physicians, nurses and other emergency medical professionals have benefited from Chris Irelan’s dedication to help healthcare organizations develop their most valuable asset and greatest opportunity for success…their “people.”

In 2007 his enlightening new book, It’s Not Rocket Surgery: How to be a Star Leader at Every Level, coauthored by Sociologist Julie Irelan, will be released by Second River Healthcare Press.  This breakthrough work will empower personnel at all levels to recognize, develop and take ownership of their opportunities for leadership by detailing the 12 things they must know and do to become high performance leaders and propel their organizations to greatness.

Chris is a cofounder and owner of Irelan Consulting with his wife and business partner Julie Irelan.  Julie’s business success and expertise in sociology creates the perfect synergy to achieving their mutual goal of bringing high performance leadership, personal development and empowerment, and memory training to individuals and organizations pursuing opportunities for excellence.  Together they have created over 20 personal development courses available on CD and have coauthored four books.
